How many wedding invitations should I order?

It really doesn’t matter how big or small your wedding is, this is a great guide to making sure you cover ALL eventualities.

First things first … write a guest list!  Obvious though it seems, it does make sure that no one important is left off, or out!  Last thing you need is to upset anyone at this early stage of planning.

Etiquette states that ONE wedding invitation per household is perfectly acceptable.  This would include, say, any adults and children you are inviting under the age of 18.  If any of the ‘children’ are over 18, it is suggested that an additional invitation/s are sent to them in their own right.

Many brides and grooms wish to have additional wedding invites for keepsakes … so, add 1 to 3 extras to your total if this applies to you.

Ask your photographer if he/she would like one too.  Because it is part of your wedding after all and they may be pleased to have a ‘mint condition’ one to snap.

It is generally agreed that, on average, between 10% – 20% of guests are unable to attend.  So, rule of thumb is that, if you add an additional 10% to your original guest list, you should be well and truly covered for most eventualities such as an expanded guest list or any stray invites that get lost in the post!

Many companies allow you to purchase extra outer envelopes in case of addressing slip-ups!  We at Silk & Ink always add a few extra envelopes to our orders complimentary, because no one is perfect and mistakes can happen!!

So … there you go!  Number on Guest List + Keepsakes + Photographer + 10%.
